The Secret to Creating Hot-selling Info Products

Whether you have existing information products currently selling for passive income or are intrigued by the idea and wanna get a slice of the multi-billion dollar pie that is information marketing, there’s one thing you must consider before publishing your first (or next) information product.

Without this, it’s virtually guaranteed that the product you put so much blood, sweat and tears into creating will flop, big time. (I speak from very painful experience, so trust me on this one.)

Thankfully, it’s a relatively simple fix, and one that can help to ensure that your product will fly off the (virtual) shelves.

Ready?

Here it is:

Choose ONE problem or goal.

I get it: You want to fix all that ails your clients, and the temptation to just fix and fix and fix is overpowering. Many of us (especially in the healing professions) are givers by nature, and so we want to give until there’s nothing left.

But the reality is that there is such a thing as overgiving, and it doesn’t serve us or our clients. It doesn’t serve us because the more we give, the greater our chances of burnout. It doesn’t serve our clients because then they’re left in information overload (if they’re intrigued enough to buy in the first place).

As I said, I’ve learned this lesson the hard way. I have a product that I spent months creating that basically walked people through everything they needed to know about copywriting. It was too much for most folks, and it failed miserably.

On the other hand, my most popular product to date has been my Instant Home Page Templates¬†package, which helps people write their website’s home page. That’s it. There’s everything people need to write a great home page, but nothing else to overwhelm them.

So I started modeling all of my products after the Home Page Template and boom, suddenly I had a successful information marketing business going.

How to put this into action: Choose ONE challenge your clients most want to solve or the ONE goal they most want to achieve.

The problem might be that they know they’re working too hard but don’t know how to hire the right assistant without wasting their limited time or money.

The goal might be landing their next promotion in 6 months or less or mastering a foreign language in just 30 minutes/week. Or perhaps creating a plan to pay off soul-squeezing debt within 2-5 years.

When you laser-focus on ONE topic, the whole thing feels more achievable to people and your product will therefore be more appealing.

Think about it: would you be more enticed to purchase a product showing you how to build a complicated, 20-step online business that will take you 6 months of slow progress before you can start earning money or a product revealing how to set up a simple, 1-page e-commerce website that can start earning you income in 24 hours?

Give them a shortcut to achieving ONE goal or getting rid of ONE problem and you’ll have a winner on your hands.

By the way, this is also how you can use this product as a way to generate passive income AND help transition folks into your high-end products, programs, and services. Because when you use this product to solve ONE challenge that folks have before they come to work with you, you’ll find that they will likely have additional challenges that you can help them with in your one-on-one or group packages. For example, a weight loss coach can write an ebook helping people create a 30-day meal plan, but from there readers might discover they need help staying on track, or they need help designing an exercise plan, or whatever else you might offer. Point being that you can offer them additional products and services (including your high-end programs) to your heart’s content. Not all of them will buy, but you will be more likely to fill some spots to folks who’ve already bought from you – and received value – than trying to sell a $1000 product or $5000 coaching to a stranger visiting your website for the first time.

Your Turn: What ONE problem or ONE goal will you address in your first (or next) product?
